Frequently Asked Questions

What is Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu?

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a martial art and combat sport that focuses on grappling and ground fighting. It emphasizes leverage, technique, and submission holds to control opponents, making it suitable for self-defense and sport.

Is Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu suitable for beginners?

Yes, absolutely! BJJ is designed for people of all ages and fitness levels. Our classes cater to beginners with no prior experience, starting with fundamental techniques and gradually progressing.

What should I expect in my first BJJ class?

Your first class will likely cover basic movements, positions, and techniques. You’ll learn how to perform essential drills and participate in controlled sparring (rolling) sessions under the guidance of experienced instructors.

What do I need to bring to class?

Bring a water bottle and wear comfortable workout attire such as a t-shirt or compression top and athletic shorts or leggings. Bring a gi (BJJ uniform) if you have one - if not, we have plenty of loaners!

How often should I train BJJ to see progress?

Consistency is key. We recommend starting with 2-3 classes per week to build a solid foundation. As you progress, you may choose to increase training frequency based on your goals.
